Bloodless health isurance scheme

The growing demand for blood savings along with the current scientific evidence of the benefits of minimally invasive surgery for certain patients who reject the use of blood or blood products for ethical, religious or personal reasons drives us to develop policies that cover medical alternatives to blood transfusions.

Does the law allow a patient to decide on medical or surgical treatment?

The guiding principles of the patient’s autonomy law guarantee:

  • Protection of the person’s dignity in the process of the end of his life.
  • Promotion of the freedom, autonomy and will of the person, respecting their desires, priorities and values.
  • Respect for the privacy and the confidentiality of the person.
  • Guarantee of equality and non-discrimination of people in the process of the end of their life when receiving services from the social or health field.
What does a policy with a bloodless surgery clause include?

The bloodless surgery clause included in our policies guarantees the beneficiary’s right to refuse to be given blood transfusions (whole blood, erythrocytes, leukocytes, platelets or plasma).

Gescobert guarantees the location of doctors and surgeons 24 hours within the agreed medical staff who respect the refusal of the patient to a blood transfusion.

When within the medical  chart there is no doctor, clinic or hospital willing to respect the insured’s right to refuse to accept blood transfusions or the indicated derivatives, Gescobert together with the company will look for a hospital or medical center that respects its position, taking charge of the company of all the hospital and medical expenses generated by the intervention or treatment by a doctor outside the entity.

Every year we visit the recommended doctors who attend the bloodless surgery group, and we take care of locating new professionals who accept the right of the patient to decide not to accept blood transfusions.
